I have drawn and painted for as long as I can remember. My mother was a fabric designer and my father (a doctor) had a deep appreciation for art and was Professor of Anatomy at the Royal Academy of Arts for many years, so I have always felt somehow that art was an important part of life.
School and university took me in a different direction professionally. I spent 15 years as a doctor in the NHS, finally leaving to prioritise my family's needs in 2015. I sketched intermittently throughout that time, often just drawing hands or feet or doodling, but somehow my identity had been stripped back to only mother and home-maker and I felt a need to return to drawing for myself.
I signed up to some local drawing classes, and spent 5 happy years with a small group of local hobby artists, supported by the fabulous artist Pelin Pratt of the Bluematchbox Pottery. All this was alongside retraining as a triathlon coach.
Slowly but surely I developed my skills, with in-person tutelage, personal practice, online tutorials and workshops, and eventually I landed on my favourite medium of soft pastel painting. I joined the Beenham Art Group in 2022 and these two hours a week dedicated to creating art in a shared safe space is very precious to me.
My day job is spent writing training plans and supporting athletes to meet their training goals. I try to carve out time every week to paint or draw, not always successfully!
I exhibited at the Reading Guild of Artists Small Works Exhibition 2025, the annual Beenham Art Group Exhibition and Sale, and have work available to view and buy locally in Theale and Beenham.
